Alleged would-be Trump assassin Ryan Routh faces state charge in connection with his arrest

Ryan Routh, the man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump, is now facing state charges in connection with his arrest. Routh was arrested in November 2021 after he allegedly traveled to Mar-a-Lago in Florida with the intent to kill Trump.

The 31-year-old man from Hobart, Indiana was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault with a firearm in connection with the incident. Routh appeared in court on Wednesday, where a judge set his bail at $1 million.

According to authorities, Routh had a history of mental health issues and had made threats against Trump in the past. He allegedly traveled to Florida with a high-powered rifle and a handgun, intending to carry out his plan to assassinate the former president.

Fortunately, Routh was apprehended by the Secret Service before he could carry out his attack. Trump was not at Mar-a-Lago at the time of the incident.

Routh’s attorney argued in court that his client’s mental health issues should be taken into consideration in his case. He also stated that Routh had no prior criminal record and had never been in trouble with the law before.

The state charges against Routh come in addition to federal charges that he is facing for the same incident. He has been charged with one count of attempting to kill a former president and one count of carrying a firearm during a crime of violence.

Routh’s case has garnered national attention, as it raises questions about the security measures in place to protect former presidents. It also highlights the importance of addressing mental health issues and ensuring that individuals who pose a threat to others receive the help they need.

As the legal proceedings against Routh continue, the public will be closely following the case to see how justice is served in this high-profile incident.
